Ah, Memorial Day weekend. In Colorado Springs, this weekend means Territory Days. It means the Meadow Grass Festival. It means the beginning of summer.
This year celebrates the 44thyear of Territory Days occurring right down the street from West Edge!
Territory Days in Colorado Springs is held every Memorial Day weekend in historic Old Colorado City located on the west side of Colorado Springs.
Territory Days began in 1975 as the “Rampart Range Sertoma Territory Days Parade and Buffalo Barbecue”. In 1976 the name was changed to Territory Days to commemorate “Colorado City” (now known as Old Colorado City) as the first capitol of the Colorado Territory in 1861.
Territory Days began as a merchant organized barbecue and parade and has grown into a three-day street festival which now hosts 200 craft, food and drink booths throughout the streets. Between 80,000 and 140,000 guests, (depending on the weather), enjoy this event every Memorial weekend.
Throughout the day and evening, there are native dancers and costume folk who come out to share the history of Territory Days. The weekend offers greatlive performances on 3 different stages to celebrate the sound Colorado’s great history, an array of vibrant colors, smells, and lights!
